The Moon 

The Moon -- The Archetype of the "Divine Mother (Soul) or The Infant", ruler of the sign Cancer. The Moon symbolizes the urge to "mother" or nurture, and to "be mothered" or nurtured by Self and others. It relates to "The Infant" in that it represents our unique and most basic emotional needs, which must be met in order to feel safe and unconditionally loved in our lives. It relates to "The Mother" in that it represents our capacity to meet and honor those needs, first for ourselves, and then for others, and to take responsibility for the "processing" of our own emotions. The Sun and The Moon are often paired astrologically, representing the masculine and feminine (Jung's anima /animus) polarity within each of us. A well-nurtured Soul (MOON) feels safe and secure enough to take the necessary risks in order to grow beyond that which is familiar and known (SUN).
